Bind a Linux system to the Texas A&M AUTH.TAMU.EDU Active Directory domain for centralized authentication.

Join a Linux system to AUTH.TAMU.EDU Active Directory

This guide covers binding a Linux workstation or server to the central Texas A&M AUTH.TAMU.EDU Active Directory domain for centralized authentication. For general AD documentation covering Windows and macOS, see Endpoint → Active Directory.

This page is a placeholder while the full Linux AD join procedure is being documented. For immediate help, contact artsci-help@tamu.edu or open a ticket in the TS-AO-Linux-Infrastructure queue in TDX.

When to use AUTH.TAMU.EDU

The AUTH.TAMU.EDU domain is the modern, centralized Active Directory forest for Texas A&M. New Linux systems should be joined to AUTH rather than the legacy GEOS.TAMU.EDU domain. If you're migrating an existing system, see the GEOS Home Directory Migration guide for moving user data.

Prerequisites

  • Administrative access to the target Linux system
  • A valid TAMU service account with permission to join the AUTH domain
  • Network connectivity to the AUTH domain controllers
  • A supported operating system (see Endpoint Deployment for the current support matrix)
