How to load the theme, what it changes, how light/dark modes work, and verifying WCAG contrast after applying.

Apply the Aggie Brand Theme

The Aggie Brand Theme is a JSON file that transforms a default Power BI report into a TAMU-branded report. It sets colors, fonts, visual defaults, and accessibility-compliant contrast ratios in one step.

How to Apply

  1. Download aggie-brand-theme.json from the Aggie Brand Theme documentation
  2. Open your report in Power BI Desktop
  3. Go to ViewThemesBrowse for themes
  4. Select the JSON file
  5. Click Open — all visuals update immediately

The theme is saved inside the report file. You only apply it once.

Verifying Contrast

After applying the theme, spot-check your visuals:

  • Text on white background: Maroon (#500000) on white = 15.4:1 contrast ratio (exceeds AAA)
  • Text on maroon background: White (#FFFFFF) on maroon = 15.4:1 (exceeds AAA)
  • Gold accent on white: Gold (#AF8846) on white = 3.8:1 (use for decorative elements only, not body text)
  • Chart data colors: All palette colors meet AA against white background

Light and Dark Mode

The theme includes both light and dark mode palettes. Dark mode is controlled by a Theme Slicer in AggieViz reports or via the Power BI service's built-in dark mode setting.

For details on implementing theme-responsive visuals, see Light & Dark Mode.
