Disable Ads in Google Search Instance
Audience: Google Workspace Administrators and MarComm liaisons.
Purpose: Enable the option to disable ads for university search instances.
Overview
When someone sets up a Google Programmable Search Engine instance, an admin must be added as an owner so Google recognizes the non-profit status and provides the option to disable ads.
Procedure
Step 1: Get Added as Owner
The site owner who created the search instance must add a global admin account as an owner of the search engine.
Step 2: Join Search Users Group
The global admin account must be made a member of the Google Search Users group to access the control panel.
Step 3: Verify Ownership
-
Log in with the global admin account
-
Navigate to the Programmable Search Engine Control Panel
-
Verify you can see the search engine instance
Step 4: Wait for Toggle
After verifying ownership, it can take a few days for the toggle button to appear.
