How to Reset Your NetID Password
Audience: All Texas A&M students, faculty, and staff
Scope: Self-service password reset via Howdy Portal
Out of scope: Account lockouts requiring Help Desk intervention
TL;DR
- Go to howdy.tamu.edu and click "Forgot Password?"
- Verify via email, SMS, or Duo Push
- New password: minimum 12 characters with mixed case, numbers, and symbols
- Allow 5-10 minutes for sync across all systems
This article explains how to reset your Texas A&M NetID password.
Before You Begin
You'll need one of the following:
- Access to your registered recovery email
- Access to your registered phone number
- Duo Mobile app configured for 2FA
Reset via Howdy Portal
Password Reset Steps
- Go to howdy.tamu.edu
- Click "Forgot Password?" on the login page
- Enter your NetID or UIN
- Select your verification method:
- Email: Code sent to your recovery email
- SMS: Code sent to your phone
- Duo Push: Notification to your Duo app
- Enter the verification code
- Create a new password following these requirements:
- Minimum 12 characters
- At least one uppercase letter
- At least one lowercase letter
- At least one number
- At least one special character
- Confirm your new password
- Click Submit

| History | Cannot reuse last 10 passwords |
After Resetting
Your new password will need to be updated on:
- Your computer login
- Outlook/Email apps
- Mobile devices
- Any saved browser passwords

Allow 5-10 minutes for the password change to sync across all systems.
Troubleshooting
Don't have access to your recovery options?
Contact the Help Desk with your UIN and a photo ID for identity verification.
Password reset link expired?
Password reset links expire after 15 minutes. Start the process again.
Account locked?
After 5 failed attempts, accounts are locked for 30 minutes. Wait or contact the Help Desk.
