How to Reset Your NetID Password

Audience: All Texas A&M students, faculty, and staff
Scope: Self-service password reset via Howdy Portal
Out of scope: Account lockouts requiring Help Desk intervention

TL;DR
  • Go to howdy.tamu.edu and click "Forgot Password?"
  • Verify via email, SMS, or Duo Push
  • New password: minimum 12 characters with mixed case, numbers, and symbols
  • Allow 5-10 minutes for sync across all systems

This article explains how to reset your Texas A&M NetID password.


Before You Begin

You'll need one of the following:

  • Access to your registered recovery email
  • Access to your registered phone number
  • Duo Mobile app configured for 2FA

Reset via Howdy Portal

Password Reset Steps
  1. Go to howdy.tamu.edu
  2. Click "Forgot Password?" on the login page
  3. Enter your NetID or UIN
  4. Select your verification method:
    • Email: Code sent to your recovery email
    • SMS: Code sent to your phone
    • Duo Push: Notification to your Duo app
  5. Enter the verification code
  6. Create a new password following these requirements:
    • Minimum 12 characters
    • At least one uppercase letter
    • At least one lowercase letter
    • At least one number
    • At least one special character
  7. Confirm your new password
  8. Click Submit

After Resetting

Your new password will need to be updated on:

  • Your computer login
  • Outlook/Email apps
  • Mobile devices
  • Any saved browser passwords

Allow 5-10 minutes for the password change to sync across all systems.


Troubleshooting

Don't have access to your recovery options?

Contact the Help Desk with your UIN and a photo ID for identity verification.

Password reset links expire after 15 minutes. Start the process again.

Account locked?

After 5 failed attempts, accounts are locked for 30 minutes. Wait or contact the Help Desk.
